Afnan Perfumes
Afnan is one of the few Middle Eastern houses that gives equal weight to two very different formats, and this collection reflects that. On one side are the sprays that made the name travel; on the other are the concentrated perfume oils, which is where the house started and where its perfumers still do some of their most traditional work.
The sprays first. 9pm is the release that put Afnan on shelves outside the Gulf, an apple and vanilla tobacco built for evenings, and it now has company in 9pm Rebel, 9pm Night Out extrait de parfum and 9PM Elixir. Its daytime counterpart 9am has its own variation in 9am Dive. Supremacy is the other pillar, with the Collectors Edition, Supremacy Pink, Supremacy Purple and the deeper Supremacy in Oud extrait. Highness IV and Highness VI in blue take a smoother, more polished route, and Turathi Electric, Modest Deux, the Souvenir pair in Desert Rose and Floral Bouquet, and the Ornament trio for him, for her and in Purple Allure complete the sprayable side.
The oils are worth slowing down for. Sultanah, Tejaan, Noor Al Shams, Al Fakher, Supreme Musk and the Bait Al Bakhoor pair Rahaal and Tohfa come in 12ml to 25ml bottles and are applied to pulse points rather than sprayed. They sit close to the skin, last through a full day and use no alcohol, which is how much of the region has always worn perfume.
