Gucci began in Florence in 1921 with luggage and saddlery, and the fragrance line has been through as many reinventions as the clothes. The current era is defined by Bloom, released in 2017, which asked Alberto Morillas to build a scent around Rangoon creeper, a flower that changes colour as it opens, layered over tuberose and jasmine. It smells green and slightly damp, more like a greenhouse than a bouquet, and it made the house relevant in perfume again.
