Penhaligon s of London
William Penhaligon was a barber on Jermyn Street who started making scent for his customers in the 1860s, and Hammam Bouquet in 1872 was the result of working next door to a Turkish bath every day. The house has held royal warrants, and its modern reputation rests on the Portraits collection: fragrances sold as characters in an ongoing aristocratic soap opera, each with an animal head for a cap.
Halfeti is here in two forms. The original 3.4 oz eau de parfum is named after a village in southeastern Turkey where the roses grow so dark they look black, and the scent is a spiced rose with saffron, oud and leather underneath. Halfeti Leather in 3.4 oz pushes that leather right to the front and is the drier, more animalic of the pair.
The third is The Tragedy of Lord George from the Portraits line - brandy, tonka and honey, wearing the stag head cap. It is one of the warmest things the house makes.
