Initio arrived in 2015 with an unusual pitch. Rather than selling a story about a place or a person, the house sells a claim about effect, building each extrait de parfum around a molecule chosen for the mood it is meant to produce. Whether you take the neuroscience literally or not, the perfumery underneath it is serious, the concentrations are high, and the names tell you plainly what each bottle is aiming at.
Oud For Greatness is the flagship and the release that broke the house internationally: saffron and nutmeg over oud and musk, polished rather than medicinal, dense enough that a single spray covers a full day. Oud For Happiness works the same material toward something brighter and sweeter.
Side Effect is rum, cinnamon and vanilla over tobacco, a genuinely intoxicating gourmand and the second most requested bottle on this shelf. Rehab folds vanilla and sandalwood into something soft and enveloping. Musk Therapy and High Frequency go the opposite way, clean and skin-like and nearly transparent, which is the register plenty of people want for an office or for layering underneath something heavier. Atomic Rose sets rose against tart fruit and musk, and Blessed Baraka is the incense-and-resin one.
The bottles are worth handling in person: matte glass with a heavy metal plaque and a magnetic cap that closes with an audible snap.
