Cinnamon and praline over vanilla - a dessert fragrance with a spice rack in it. Liquid Brun opens warm rather than fresh: cinnamon and cardamom first, a flash of bergamot, orange blossom giving the top a slightly floral sweetness. The heart is bourbon vanilla, with elemi's resinous, faintly citrus lift keeping it from lying flat. The base is where it earns its name - praline, ambroxan and guaiac wood, nutty and smoky and dense.

French Avenue built this for cooler seasons and says so plainly, which makes Miami a real consideration rather than a footnote. Ambroxan is the reason it still works here: it amplifies in heat and humidity, so where a softer gourmand would smother, this one radiates. A very small application throws a wide trail on a warm evening, and ten to twelve hours is realistic. The problem window is noon to four in the summer, when cinnamon and praline together under full sun can read cloying on skin. Locals solve it the obvious way - wear it at night, wear it from November onward, or put one spray on clothing instead of three on the neck.

Cold-weather evenings, holiday season, long dinners, anywhere you want to smell warm and a little indulgent. It is marketed to men, but the praline and orange blossom make it read unisex in practice.
