Ginger + Mist opens on bergamot and lemon with ginger extract cutting straight through them, sharp and rooty rather than the candied kind, and a pineapple note giving a brief flash of sweetness before cedar leaf pulls it back green and coniferous. The heart doubles down on the spice: more ginger, coriander and nutmeg, with lavandin adding an aromatic herbal sweep that keeps it from reading purely culinary. Underneath, a gin accord sits alongside akigalawood, sandalwood, georgywood and musk - dry, peppery woods with a juniper-like sparkle over the top. Michael Malul frames it as a serene oasis of nature, which undersells how bracing the opening actually is.

Fresh ginger is one of the better bets for a Miami summer because it reads as cooling rather than warming - the same trick a cold ginger beer pulls off. The citrus burns off quickly here, within the hour outdoors, but the ginger and coriander survive well into the afternoon and the woody base is genuinely humidity-proof, holding seven or eight hours without turning sour. It is also one of the few spicy fragrances that does not feel oppressive at 90 degrees. Where it struggles is a still, hot car interior, where the nutmeg can briefly go dusty. Two or three sprays, applied before you dress.

Marketed toward men but comfortably unisex. Daytime, work, spring and autumn here, and any warm-weather occasion where you want to smell clean and sharp rather than sweet.
