Roja Parfums Elysium
Roja Dove spent years at Guerlain, where he held the title Professeur de Parfums, before opening his own house in 2011 above the Burlington Arcade in London. He is one of the last perfumers running a house under his own name who still composes the fragrances himself, and the work is known for very high concentrations of naturals and for a style that is unapologetically rich.
Our single listing is Elysium, the 3.4 oz parfum cologne. It is the one Roja that broke out beyond the collector audience, and it is not what people expect from the house. Bright grapefruit and lemon open it, juniper and pink pepper run through the middle, and a base of vetiver, cedar and musk keeps it clean rather than sweet. It smells fresh and opulent at the same time, which is a difficult combination to pull off.
The wider Roja catalogue includes Enigma, Danger and the Haute Luxe tier, but Elysium is the single bottle on our shelf and we would rather say that plainly than imply a full range.
