Honey and tobacco, warmed with cinnamon, sweetened to just short of dessert. Naxos is the fragrance that made a lot of people take Xerjoff seriously, and it is easy to hear why within five minutes: a bright lavender and lemon opening that seems headed somewhere fresh, then a turn into thick honey and pipe tobacco that feels almost like a second perfume arriving. Cashmeran gives the middle a soft musky haze, and tonka and vanilla close it out. It sits in the house's 1861 collection, named for the year of Italian unification.

Yet the same humidity that overloads it in August is what makes it extraordinary on a cool damp December night, when moist air carries the tobacco without cooking the honey underneath.
