Sweet apple and cinnamon over a bed of vanilla and amber - 9pm is comfort food in a bottle, and it became one of the best selling fragrances in the Middle Eastern category for exactly that reason. The opening is crisp and slightly tart, a red apple with a dusting of spice and a green flick of wild lavender, and it does not stay crisp for long. Within half an hour the apple has melted into orange blossom and the base takes over: vanilla, tonka, amber and a dry edge of patchouli that stops the whole thing from being a candle.

Expect eight hours or more with strong projection early on. Amber and vanilla are heat-reactive in a way that catches people out here - what feels like a moderate application in a cool bedroom becomes considerably bigger once you are standing on Miami asphalt in the afternoon. The apple note in particular thins out fast in humidity, so the sweet amber core arrives sooner and stays longer than the note list suggests. Wear it at night, when the temperature drops and the humidity works in its favor, holding the vanilla close to the skin instead of blasting it. Between roughly November and March it is close to perfect for Miami evenings. In midsummer, cut your usual spray count in half.

This is a night-out fragrance, a cold-weather fragrance, a fragrance for dinners and dates. Sweet enough that some offices will not thank you for it, especially in a small room. Widely worn as masculine, though plenty of people wear it regardless of that.
