Rose, but the modern kind - polished, slightly fizzy, nothing like a garden. Club de Nuit Imperiale opens on litchi and bergamot with nutmeg tucked behind them, so the first minutes are bright and juicy with a warm spice edge that stops it from being simply another fruity floral. Turkish rose and peony come up through the middle, full and a little jammy, with musk and vanilla already softening the edges. What makes it interesting is the drydown: cashmeran, cedar, incense and vetiver give it a dry woody spine that most fragrances in this style skip entirely, so instead of fading into sugar it fades into something clean and faintly smoky.

The woody base is what makes this workable in Miami. Rose and litchi on their own would turn thin and slightly sour in high humidity by mid-afternoon, but the cashmeran and cedar hold the composition together and give it something to sit on when the top notes burn off. Realistically that means six to eight hours here, with strong projection for the first two and a close, incense-tinged rose for the rest. It reads brighter outdoors and warmer in air conditioning. One practical note: the litchi opening is the loudest part, so if you are spraying before a car ride in August, do it after you get in rather than before.

A feminine fragrance, though the incense and vetiver stop it from being sugary enough to feel juvenile. Good for daytime and for the office, and it moves into an evening comfortably. Spring and autumn suit it best.
