Byredo Young Rose Eau de Parfum 100ml

A rose with the sweetness turned off. Young Rose leads with Sichuan pepper, which crackles and tingles the way it does in food, and ambrette seeds that add a warm, musky-vegetal softness from the very start. Underneath the pepper sits Damascena rose - the real thing, deep and jammy - but Byredo never lets it tip into potpourri, wrapping it instead in orris, which is dry, cool and faintly powdery. The finish is musk and ambroxan: clean, radiant, close to the skin. If most rose fragrances feel like a bouquet, this one feels like a single rose left on a warm stone windowsill. Thoroughly unisex, and modern rather than romantic.

Byredo builds transparent, and Young Rose is no exception - figure six to eight hours with quiet projection after the first hour. That transparency is exactly why it works in South Florida. Heavy oriental roses turn cloying the moment the dew point climbs into the seventies; this one stays airy even crossing a parking lot in August. Humidity actually pushes the ambroxan and musk outward, so it trails a little further here than it would in a dry climate, without ever getting heavy.
