Face powder, in the best possible sense. Love opens with orange blossom and pink pepper - a sweet, slightly fizzy citrus-floral flash that is sharp for the first few minutes and then calms right down. What follows is the reason people either love this or find it too polished: iris absolute at the centre, cool and creamy, surrounded by lilac, hyacinth and wisteria so the florals blur together into something soft-focus rather than distinct. The base is where the concept lands completely. Heliotrope, talc, rice powder and powdery musks build a cosmetic-counter accord - the smell of a compact being opened, warm skin and fine powder - and it hangs around the wearer as a quiet halo. Louise Turner composed it for Chloe in 2010, and it remains one of the cleanest, most feminine powder fragrances on a department store shelf.

Powder accords are a genuine Miami problem and it is worth knowing before you buy. Talc and rice powder read beautifully in dry air; in high humidity they can turn slightly heavy and cosmetic, and on skin that is actively sweating the iris can go a little waxy. Realistically that means five to seven hours here, at close range for most of it, and it performs noticeably better in air conditioning and in the evening than at midday in July. The upside is that it is never loud - two or three sprays is a full application and it will not follow you into a room you have left.

Feminine, refined and quiet. Work, daytime, cooler months, and evenings where you want to smell expensive without projecting.
