Austin opens boozy and spiced - the cognac note warm and slightly sharp, like the fumes off a glass rather than the liquid, and the tobacco underneath it dry and leafy. It is a confident opening and it does not take long to soften. Tonka bean arrives in the heart with its almond-and-hay sweetness, oak adds a dry timber note, and leather runs through the middle giving the whole thing a worn, lived-in texture rather than a new-jacket squeak. The base is comfort: sandalwood, vanilla, musk and amber, creamy and warm, rounding off every edge the cognac and leather set up. City Rhythm ties it to the bronze light and easy pace of the city itself, and the fragrance genuinely does read sunlit rather than nocturnal.
