City Rhythm Miami Extrait Parfum 3.4 oz 100ml
Coconut and lime, then rum. Miami is a tropical fragrance from a house that blends and bottles by hand in small runs, and it is refreshingly literal about its subject - this genuinely smells like a beach day that ran on into the night. The coconut is ripe and creamy rather than suntan-lotion sharp, lime keeps the opening from sitting heavy, and saffron threads a warm spice through it. Jasmine and ylang-ylang add a floral richness most tropical scents skip entirely, and the drydown of rum, tobacco leaf, tonka, and ambergris finishes smoky and boozy.
Top: Coconut, lime, saffron · Heart: Sugar cane, ylang-ylang, jasmine, osmanthus · Base: Rum, ambergris, tonka bean, cedar, tobacco leaf
No fragrance in the shop has a stronger claim to being evaluated in its intended environment. Extrait concentration gives it eight to ten hours, and the composition behaves as though it were built for exactly this air - coconut and sugar cane stay creamy in humidity where cheaper tropicals collapse into sunscreen, and the ambergris reads convincingly saline when there is actual salt in the breeze. Wearing this on a ninety-degree afternoon here is about as close to the intended experience as a fragrance gets. As the day cools the tobacco and rum push forward, which means a beach afternoon and a night out are effectively two different fragrances from one application.
Summer, obviously, and in South Florida that runs April through October. Daytime, water, outdoors, vacation. Too distinctive for a conservative office, excellent for a weekend. Unisex without qualification.
Because City Rhythm blends in small hand-made batches, this is a full bottle only - no decant is listed. That makes testing first the smart approach: smell it at the Miami Gardens shop, ideally on a hot day, which is the only fair way to judge a fragrance like this one.
