Silver Mountain Water opens with a squeeze of bergamot and mandarin so bright it reads almost metallic, and green tea and blackcurrant follow - the blackcurrant tart rather than sweet, the tea dry and faintly bitter. What people remember is the shimmer in the base, a mineral musk that smells like clean skin after a swim. Olivier Creed and Pierre Bourdon released it in 1995 and nothing has quite replaced it since.

Be realistic about this one: it is not a beast, and Miami will not make it into one. Expect four to six hours on skin with a projection window of maybe the first ninety minutes, after which it becomes something you notice when you move. What the humidity does do is stretch the pretty part - the tea and blackcurrant stay wet and green here instead of drying into soap the way they can in cold air. It is genuinely at its best in the swampy months because it reads as clean rather than as perfume, and it does not turn heavy when you sweat. Three or four sprays is normal, and a midday reapplication is not a failure of the fragrance so much as how it was built.

Daytime, hot weather, anywhere you need to smell put together without smelling like you tried. Fully office-safe, arguably the safest thing Creed makes. It is listed for men and women and wears exactly that way on either. Spring and summer are its home, which in South Florida means most of the calendar.
