Saffron and oud, turned all the way up. The opening is a blast of saffron and nutmeg, leathery and slightly sweet and almost medicinal for the first minute, and then a big smoky oud takes the stage with lavender threaded through it. That lavender is the unusual move here and the reason it does not smell like every other oud on a shelf. Underneath, patchouli and musk lay down a dark resinous floor. It is an extrait and it wears like one: dense, unapologetic, impossible to miss.

Respect the dosage in this climate. One spray is a decision; three is an announcement that arrives before you do. In Miami humidity the saffron opening blooms enormously - the first twenty minutes outdoors can feel like standing inside the fragrance - and it takes a good half hour before the oud settles and the composition calms down. Once it does, it is remarkable. Twelve hours is normal, and the trail it leaves in an air-conditioned room lingers well after you have left it. Heat and sweat do not break this one down, they extend it. Practical advice from behind the counter: spray indoors, wait, then go outside, and never apply it in a parked car with the windows up.

Cool evenings, big occasions, and anyone who wants presence in a room. Not an office fragrance under any honest definition, and not one for a packed restaurant patio in July unless you have gone down to a single spray. From December through March in South Florida it is close to perfect. Men and women both wear it; the saffron sits beautifully on either.

Because it is this loud, a 5ml or 10ml decant is not really a compromise - for most people it is the right size, and a small atomizer at one spray a wear will last months.
