Bid opens cool and slightly metallic - violet has that quality, green and sweet at once - with cardamom giving it a dry spice lift that keeps the first minutes from feeling powdery. Then iris takes over the heart, cold and creamy and faintly waxy, and ambrox slides in underneath, that clean mineral warmth that seems to radiate off skin rather than sit on it. The finish is cedarwood, leather and sandalwood: dry, smooth, and considerably more serious than the opening suggests. It is a restrained composition in a line that mostly is not, and that is the point of it.

Parfum strength, so figure eight to ten hours with a projection window of roughly two before it draws close. Iris and leather both behave differently in South Florida than they do in a cold climate, and in this case the difference is an improvement. Dry air makes iris dusty and leather scratchy; our humidity keeps the iris creamy and the leather supple, so the drydown is plusher here than the note list would lead you to expect. Ambrox is the multiplier to respect - it amplifies with heat and moisture, so two sprays before you walk out into a ninety-degree afternoon will travel about as far as four would in a dry January. Aim for the chest under a shirt rather than the neck.

Evening-leaning but genuinely versatile, and fine in an office at one or two sprays. Unisex, and it wears more elegant than loud - dinners, weddings, cool nights, and anything where you would rather be remembered at close range than noticed from across a room.
