Pepper, and then more pepper. Blue opens on black pepper and Calabrian bergamot together, which gives it a sharp, almost stinging brightness in the first minute - citrus oil with a spice burn behind it. Pink pepper picks up where the black leaves off, joined by geranium and elemi in the heart, and that combination is the interesting part: geranium is green and slightly rose-like, elemi is resinous and lemony, and together they keep the fragrance from settling into a standard fresh-spicy shape. The base is where it changes character entirely. Labdanum, patchouli and cedar bring in a sticky, ambery warmth and an earthy depth, so what began as a cool peppery citrus finishes dark, resinous and close to the skin.

The labdanum base is the thing to plan around here. In Miami humidity resins get heavier, not lighter, so the arc is steep: bright and peppery for the first hour, then progressively warmer and denser until by hour three you are wearing an amber. Eight to ten hours on skin, and it clings to cotton for days. Outdoors in summer that density can feel like a lot, which is why this one is better after sundown and better still from November onward. Two sprays is a full application in August. In January you can afford four.

Unisex, and it leans intense rather than easy - the name suggests a fresh blue fragrance and the drydown is nothing of the kind. Evenings, dinners, cool weather, and any occasion where you want a trail.
