Orientica Luxury Collection Miniature Discovery

Five of the Orientica Luxury Collection in 7.5ml miniatures, which is enough of each to wear properly for a week rather than sniff once and guess. The set runs across genuinely different territory, from a loud saffron-amber to a soft creamy woody, so it works as a way to find out which corner of the house suits you before committing to a full bottle.

What is in the box:

• Amber Rouge - saffron and jasmine over a big amberwood core, with praline sweetness and a resinous finish. The loudest thing here by some distance.
• Oud Saffron - saffron and patchouli over agarwood, guaiac wood and musk, with a sweet oriental opening. Dark, dry and smoky.
• Velvet Gold - bergamot and caramel up top, rose and patchouli through the middle, vanilla and musk with an animalic edge underneath. Soft, powdery, gourmand.
• Royal Bleu - green apple, lavender and pepper opening into cardamom and violet, landing on sandalwood, guaiac and a light vanilla. The fresh one.
• Royal Amber - bergamot and green notes over melon, pineapple and amber, finishing on woody notes, musk and vanilla. Fruity and warm.

Because these are five separate compositions, there is no single note pyramid to give you. What the set does offer, which matters here, is a way to test fragrances against the actual weather rather than against a description. Wear each for a few days through a Miami week and you will learn quickly which ones bloom into something enormous the moment you cross a hot parking lot, and which ones stay wearable at close range at noon in August. As a general rule the two ambers and the oud want cooler evenings and a light hand, while Royal Bleu handles daytime heat comfortably.
