Parfums De Marly Pegasus
Almond and vanilla, but not the bakery version. Pegasus opens on a cool, powdery heliotrope with a whisper of caraway that keeps it from turning sugary, then settles into what most people describe as warm milk and bitter almond over sandalwood. Lavender runs through the middle doing the structural work, stopping the sweetness from sprawling. Parfums de Marly released it in 2011 and it has quietly become one of the house signatures: a comfort fragrance that still reads expensive rather than cozy.
Top: Bergamot · Heliotrope · Caraway · Heart: Lavender · Almond · Jasmine · Base: Ambergris · Vanilla · Sandalwood
Longevity is excellent, routinely past ten hours, with projection that pushes hard for the first hour and then settles into a close warm cloud. Miami is the hard test for a fragrance like this and it deserves a straight answer: creamy almond-vanilla compositions gain weight in high humidity, and Pegasus is no exception. Skin temperature pushes the vanilla forward and moist air holds it close instead of dispersing it. That is not automatically a bad outcome, since it becomes an intimate skin-scent version of itself, but it does mean summer wear belongs after sundown. From December through March, when the humidity finally lets go, it is close to perfect here and it will hold up through an entire evening on a patio.
Dressy and faintly romantic. It works in a winter office and struggles in an August one. Dinners, dates, cool evenings, and any situation where you would rather have someone lean in than notice you from across a room.
There is no decant option on this one, only the full bottle, which makes an in-person test worth the drive. Come to the Miami Gardens shop, spray it, and give it a full hour. Almond-vanilla fragrances are more skin-dependent than nearly any other category, and that hour will teach you more than any review can.
Parfums De Marly Pegasus is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
