Red Rum is a dark gourmand from a small independent house, and the perfumer has described it as an attempt to fit as many personally loved notes as possible into one bottle - which goes a long way toward explaining how dense it is. Davana gives the cherry a boozy, apricot-like edge, immortelle and blonde tobacco warm the heart, and the base is oak barrel, tonka, amber, and a smoky French vanilla. It smells like a cask, not a candy store.

Eau de parfum concentration carrying heavy naturals, and that shapes how it wears in this climate. Seven to nine hours on skin. Humidity intensifies the boozy opening - rum and davana get louder and slightly sharper in wet heat than in dry air, so the first thirty minutes outdoors are more forward than whatever you smelled on the tester in an air-conditioned room. Once oak and tobacco settle in, the humidity turns into an asset, keeping the vanilla creamy rather than powdery. The maker built this for cool fall nights, and realistically it is a December-through-March fragrance in South Florida. Through August, keep it to evenings and indoor air.

One point from the maker worth repeating: the natural materials can leave a small amount of sediment in the bottle. That is normal for this style of production, not a defect.
